Gold! by Thomas Greenbank

Gold!
The Kincaid Saga Book 1
by Thomas Greenbank
Genre: Family Saga, Drama Fiction

Malcolm Kincaid is a self-made man. He is also a ruthless businessman and opportunist. He knows what it takes to build and maintain a business empire, but how far will he be prepared to go to achieve his goals — and what will he sacrifice along the way?

Rachel, Malcolm's one-time fiancé; his business partner, and the mother of his child, finds herself forced to work with the man she has grown to despise.

Unaware of his true parentage, their son, Lachlan—after first studying for a law degree—advances through the ranks as their company grows into a mammoth corporation, while Rachel does her best to mitigate Malcolm's increasing influence on him. This task becomes more difficult when Malcolm appoints Lachlan as manager of a new mine.

Lachlan soon has his own set of challenges: A fractious and sometimes domineering wife with a drug dependency, a child of his own, and a conscience that often leads him into direct conflict with his Machiavellian ‘uncle’.

Over the years, Malcolm Kincaid uses, abuses, and dominates associates and family alike, crushing all opposition in his pursuit of wealth and power.

When he allows the pollution of an Aboriginal settlement’s water supply, however, he faces justice of a kind he could never imagine.

GOLD! is a tale of greed, betrayal, family conflict, rape, and murder. It is also, however, a story of love and loyalty — and of how one man’s pride and prejudice can lead to terrible retribution.

Thomas Greenbank writes gritty Australian fiction. GOLD!, his debut novel, was a 2020 Page Turner Awards finalist. Greenbank's writing draws deeply on his diverse background and life experience. From a pro musician to factory worker; business owner to crossword compiler, oversize escort driver, ceramic artist and more, including 25 years as a full-time disability carer, there's not much he hasn't experienced. This diversity shows in his writing, as does his penchant for accuracy in research. Now semi-retired, Thomas lives in South Australia, with his wife -- #1 fan and biggest critic -- Linda. When he's not writing you'll probably find them walking on a nearby beach.

Little is known about reclusive writer Fiona Lehn, but legends abound. Some claim she emerged from her mother’s womb singing “We Are the Champions,” a half-written story clenched in her angry fists. Many believe she is serving life without parole for leading an Ottawa sit-in demanding that cloudberries be made one of the four food groups. Others tell that Lehn daily frolics with Sasquatch in glacier-fed slipstreams. Still more assert that Lehn will only answer to “Hermit FiFi” and wields a bedazzled staff like a weapon, fending off house-size mosquitoes and meteorites with a single blow.

All we really know is this: Lehn lives in Canada, has ME/CFS, and lovingly serves a Feline in perpetuity. Her songs have earned the praise of Billboard magazine, and she is a Writers of the Future winner.

The Ultimate Betrayal by Kat Martin

THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL

By Kat Martin

Blog: Setting the Stage

I love to read novels set in interesting places.  Currently I’m reading an historical romance that takes place in Nazi-occupied Paris during WWII.  I’ve always loved Paris, which makes the book even more fun to read.  Being able recognize the settings where the action takes place, as well as the names of restaurants and streets I have visited.

As a writer, going to the place your book is set, or choosing a place you have actually been, is the best way to make your book seem real.

In THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL, the novel takes place in Colorado, a state I love to visit.  After I’d concluded my second Maximum Security novel, THE DECEPTION, which was set in Texas, I was looking for someplace different for book number three.  Colorado, with its wide variety of landscapes and extreme climate conditions seemed perfect.

Having been to Denver a number of times, street names were familiar, parks and airports, locations of smaller towns and rural mountain communities.

Since this was a Maximum Security novel, a romantic thriller, I began by researching crime in the state.  I had digging and digging and finally stumbled onto an article about the U.S. Army chemical weapons depot near Colorado Springs.  As Brandon Garrett, the hero of my story, was a former army officer, I loved the idea of Bran interacting with his military past.

The idea of stealing chemical weapons from a storage depot gave me all sorts of plot ideas.  In THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL, when investigative journalist Jessie Kegan’s father, a colonel in the army, is accused of treason, she’s determined to clear his name.  Afraid for her life, Jessie turns to former Special Ops soldier, Brandon Garrett.  But time is running out and the game being played is deadly.  Working together, Bran and Jessie risk everything to solve the riddle and stop the threat--before it’s too late.

Because of the military setting, this was one of the hardest books I’ve ever written.  I think it turned out to be one of my best.  I particularly love the interaction between Bran and Jessie and I hope readers will, too.

I hope you’ll watch for THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL and that you enjoy Bran and Jessie’s story.  Till next time, all best wishes and happy reading, Kat

PAPERBACK RELEASE: 12/29/2020

TO PROVE HER FATHER’S INNOCENCE, SHE’LL HAVE TO TURN A KILLER’S SIGHTS ON HERSELF

When her father is accused of espionage and treason, journalist Jessie Kegan has no doubt the man she looked up to her entire life is innocent. Worse yet, before Colonel Kegan can stand trial, he’s found dead of a heart attack…but Jessie knows it was murder. Forcing aside her grief, she’s determined to use her investigative resources to clear her father’s name. But going after the truth means Jessie soon finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who wants that truth to stay buried with her father.

Protecting Jessie Kegan is a job bodyguard Brandon Garrett can’t refuse. Jessie isn’t just a client at Maximum Security—she’s the sister of his best friend, Danny, who was killed in Afghanistan. With dangerous enemies gunning for Jessie from every angle, keeping her safe will mean keeping her close, and Bran finds their mutual attraction growing, though being Danny’s sister puts Jessie out of bounds.

With their backs against the wall, Jessie and Bran will have to risk everything to expose her father’s killer—before his legacy dies with his daughter.

Chizelle Archie and Freedom Speakz

... ...

Freedom Speakz, born Freedom Jah’an Archie, is the petite but larger than life, multi-talented artist and Atlanta, Georgia native. She is a seventh grader currently attending Coretta Scott King Young Women’s leadership Academy. As her name suggests, Freedom Speakz is a free-spirited young lady, who never misses an opportunity to fascinate audiences both big and small. Freedom's love for the arts parallels her love of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). At just twelve years old, she is young yet fierce and confident.

Chizelle' T. Archie, is a native of Mobile, Alabama. She bursts on the literary scene in 2010 when she penned her debut novel, "The Fearfully and Wonderfully Made Diamond, in which the sequel shortly followed. “His Grace, His Blood, His Mercy! ”Chizelle’ is a mother to the joy of her life Freedom Jah’an A.K.A. Freedom Speakz, as well as a Registered Nurse. She currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

How did you come up with ideas for the books?

Freedom Speakz- “Coming up with ideas was the easy part. Most of it was all true. In “The Little Girl in the Pink Dress” where I gave my “Generations” speech this past January at the Commemorative Day for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. the details surrounding that day and how it all started was the entire idea of the book. That day I met so many special and important people in history.”

Chizellé T. Archie- As she mentioned to get the idea was really the fun part. It made it seem so much netter that we were telling a story that actually happened. When I was asked could she recite the speech by her principals in which it would call for me to write it, I never thought in a million years that after that day we would be here! The day was one I myself will never forget, and when she came to me and said she wanted to put that day down in print, I could only say yes.

What inspired you to write the books?

Freedom Speakz- My inspiration came after my speech, when I realized that what I had done was really “a thing” to both children and adults. I began to see that many people were proud of me, and I was able to get people from across the world’s attention regarding Mrs. Coretta Scott King’s legacy. I wanted to not only speak about it, I wanted to make sure little boys and girls all over the world could know that one day they too can be passionate about racial inequality, injustice, and issues regarding our rights as humans to vote. Also I was inspired through my musical video SAUCE to complete a STEAM workbook for children with activities to help them learn through the elementary stages. Our generation Z is what is known as the digital generation, and I wanted to do something that would have an effect on them for a long time to come.

What was the most difficult aspect of writing the books?

Chizellé T. Archie- Challenging I would call it. I having written two previous novels was entirely used to writing 20 chapters or greater, over 50,000 words plus, and to have to write 500-1000 so as to keep the attention span of children was by far the most challenging, but yet rewarding. It was like becoming a child all over again!

Freedom Speakz- The most difficult part to my writing was learning the entire process. Once I started to write it was easy, but when it came to the putting it together as a complete story and to make it make sense to others was , yes, the hard part.

What’s next for you?

Freedom Speakz- I plan to continue my acting classes, as acting is my first love. I really dream of being on the big screen, in movies, commercials, and or sitcoms. I really enjoy print modeling, so I would one day hope to do a campaign for my favorite designer Ralph Lauren. Also I plan to continue working on more music to one day get to the point where my music is heard across all radio stations. Lastly I plan to continue my work in school so that I can go to college and pursue all of these things.

Chizellé T. Archie-My plan is to continue helping her become the best she can. Be the best mother I know to be, by mentoring her, helping her learn the ways of life. Help navigate her course so that she will be equipped to go out into this world to become a great person in society. Personally for me, I plan to continue working as a nurse, to continue saving lives one patient at a time. Finally I plan to begin writing my next novel!

Name 3 authors you would love to collaborate with.

Chizellé T. Archie- I would love to collaborate with La Jill Hunt, Sistah Souljah, and Victoria Christopher Murray

3 things I never leave home without

Wonderful Christmas Stories by Kat Martin

... ...

Hi Friends, These are two very heartwarming and inspiring stories that were re-issued for the holidays.

The Christmas Clock Excerpt

Teddy Winters was eight years old that Christmas, too young to understand all the undercurrents swirling around him in the tiny Michigan town of Dreyerville.

He wasn’t able to value that Christmas for the miracle it truly was.

Teddy only knew he wanted to buy the beautiful Victorian clock in the window of Tremont’s Antiques as a Christmas gift for his grandmother, Lottie Sparks, a woman desperate to find him a home before her rapidly progressing Alzheimer’s left him an orphan.

Teddy didn’t know that in trying to buy the clock he would meet Sylvia Winters and Joe Dixon, a couple, once in love, desperate to overcome the past. He didn’t know he would form a friendship with his neighbors, Floyd and Doris Culver, two people struggling to revive their long-dead marriage.

Teddy didn’t know the people he met would fill that Christmas with magic. That the love of his friends would change his world, and he would forever change theirs.

Hope they touch your heart. click here

The Hotel by Jennifer Anne Gordon

... ...

From Daylight to Madness
The Hotel Book 1
by Jennifer Anne Gordon
Genre: Psychological Suspense, Gothic Horror

The latest book from the critically acclaimed author of Beautiful, Frightening, and Silent; Jennifer Anne Gordon.
On an almost uninhabitable rocky island off the coast of Maine, a Hotel looms over the shore, an ever-present gray lady that stands strong like a guard, keeping watch. For many who come here, this island is a sanctuary and a betrayal.
This is a place where memories linger like ghosts, and the ephemeral nature of time begins to peel away …like the sanity of all who have been unlucky enough to step foot on its shore.
In the late spring of 1873, Isabelle gave birth to her son Oscar, he cried for three startling minutes, and then went silent. During the months that follow, Isabelle is drugged and lulled into an almost hallucinatory world of grief and fear. Her life begins to feel as though it exists in a terrifying new reality separated from those around her …
When her grieving begins to make her husband, Henry, uncomfortable, he and his mother conspire to send Isabelle away to a Summer Hotel on Dagger Island, where she can rest and heal. While they are adamant that the hotel is not an asylum and that Isabelle will be able to return eventually to her home, Isabelle understands in her heart that it is all a lie. That perhaps, everything about being a woman in this time, may have always been a lie.
Her family has lied to her, and she has lied to herself.
The Hotel, of course, is not what it seems, and the foreboding Dagger Island begins to feel more like a prison than a retreat. Isabelle hears relentless sounds coming from the attic above her room, and the ever-present cries of small children scream in her head almost constantly. Are they hallucinations, or are they connected to the small cemetery she found, filled with the fresh dirt of little graves, the brokenhearted reminders of people that no one believes ever existed?
She meets a fellow guest at the Hotel, a young, enigmatic, and deeply damaged priest, named Francis.
Together they teeter on the edges of reality and try desperately to become free from the fates that their pasts have bound them to.
From Daylight to Madness is a poetic, and haunting Gothic Fiction novel that is both profoundly unsettling and darkly romantic.

**Only .99 cents!!**

When the Sleeping Dead Still Talk
The Hotel Book 2

Critically acclaimed Author Jennifer Anne Gordon's conclusion to The Hotel Series, with the sequel to From Daylight to Madness.

In one startling moment in the late summer of 1873 a tragedy fell like summer sun on the gray jagged shores of Dagger Island. Francis loses everything he thought his life was, and what it could have become. His heart breaks and his feet run, all the way back to his childhood home, he reaches for a past that may not exist.
He is there, in the little house in Dorchester Neck. A place haunted with missing time. He feels the comfort from walls that lean in too close, but then …He feels the trauma that ripped his life in two and in a blink of an eye he is back at the hotel. He can feel the memories fade as the cold fingers of winter wrap around him. He does not know how he got there, or indeed if he ever left.
Francis has lived his whole life veiled in the memories that are more alive than his present. The current days fade away before he can hold on to him. Everything he was or thought he could have been is gone. He realizes he may be a monster, and the person he has fallen in love with may not even exist. Francis holds onto the memories he thinks are real …until he is almost consumed by them.
Francis is isolated in a world of mesmerism, with his tormentor and healer Doctor Hughes.

Interview with Freedom Speakz and Chizelle T. Archie

In five words describe your book

Freedom Speakz-“STEAM Adventures with Freedom Speakz and Friends” Active, Educational, Fun, Versatile, Cultural

What do you hope readers will learn/discover from reading your books?

Freedom Speakz- I hope the readers, the children will realize they can be whatever they choose to be. They can do anything! I hope they will read the stories and learn who Mrs. Coretta Scott King was, and what part she played in history. I want them to learn that she was a great lady, and she contributed a lot to our history.

Chizellé T. Archie-I am hoping that children all over the world will discover their dreams! I am hoping they will learn that they too can become a great part of history. Even that I they choose, they too can write their own stories.

Why do you write? Is it something you’ve always done, or always wanted to do? Or is it something that you recently started?

Freedom Speakz-“I write because I want all children to know that they too can do it. They do not have to allow anyone to make them feel their gift is not valuable. God gave all of us a special gift and talents. I want them to never let anyone tell them they cannot! This is my first time ever writing. I wanted to do what my mother had done, follow in here footsteps.

Chizellé- “I write because it is therapy for me. It allows me to go places that no one else can. I love telling stories. I love putting my thoughts down, having someone read it as if they are actually apart of the story. Making it as real as it can be.”

Excluding your own, name 3 books you would recommend to your friends and why?

Freedom Speakz- “Before She was Harriett” I would recommend this book because it tells the story of Araminta Tubman, and who she was before she became our fearless leader Harriet Tubman.

“Betty Before X” I would recommend this book because you learn so much about the woman that was married to Malcolm X. You learn about her life, her family, and her story.

“11 Before 12” This is a great book that teaches you lessons of going into middle school. It gives pointers on what to do, what not to do. Advice on boys and girls heading to teenage life. It has helped me a lot.

Lachlann's Legacy
The Order of the Scottish Thistle Book 1
by Ashley York
Genre: Historical Romance

Hidden secrets could tear them apart as fast as their passion drove them together

On the Moray coast in Scotland…

Ethne’s genuine and caring nature makes her invaluable to her brother as his son’s caretaker, but he and his wife treat her as little more than their servant. When she learns their tribal leader would use her chaste status for his own purposes, Ethne plans to escape and reluctantly accepts the help of Lachlann—a handsome pilgrim she only just met at the local faire.

Despite her independent spirit, Ethne feels drawn to Lachlann. Her instincts say his intentions are honorable, but can she trust him with her heart?

Raised by his godfather with few clues to his family’s past, Lachlann values his freedom and the brotherhood of his highlander kin. Disguised as a pilgrim on a mission for the priory, he encounters Ethne, a warm, intelligent maiden whose courage in the face of a loveless marriage awakens an intense need to protect her.

Unfortunately, Ethne is one of the very people he must deceive to explore the cave system containing clues to the lost treasure he seeks. But he cannot abandon her to an uncertain fate—or deny the simmering tension between them.

With religious prejudice running high and both of them facing tests of loyalty, Lachlann and Ethne may realize the only way to fight for their futures is to surrender... to each other.

Passionate about history and research, York may tweak some historical facts (like the location of the Baron's Rebellion) but the flavor of the time is undeniable. With heroes and heroines you'll want to read about again and again, her stories are fresh and unpredictable but still finish with a satisfying HEA.

The Bitter War of Always
Immortality Shattered Book 2

The war has begun.

The Black Imelin’s campaign of domination spreads across the northern kingdom of Galdea. Legions of darklings, freed from their prison, ravage the Free Lands. All Imelin needs is the Staff of Life to return to Meisthelm a conqueror.

Aron Kryte finds himself in an impossible position. Not only is he the last descendent of the mad Ils Kincannon, the man who once tried to enslave the world, but he is the destined bearer of the Staff of Life. He and his band of heroes secure the Staff before Imelin and flee east. Self-doubt plagues the young lord of the Golden Warriors as he struggles to come to terms with not only his past, but his destiny.

Far to the southeast, former High Counselor Sylin Marth has gone in search of the legendary wizard Elxander. His hopes that the wizard will return to help the Hierarchy put an end to Imelin and the war are mired by doubts. Finding Elxander is easy. Reaching him is another matter, for he must cross the width of the Goblin Lands, face a dragon, and escape capture.

Time is against them all, for the skies darken and the war spreads.

The Land of Wicked Shadows
Immortality Shattered Book 3

Armies rage across the Free Lands.

The Galdeans, led by Field Marshal Dlorn, defeated the darklings at the Crimson Fields and now head south, for word has come that the Black Imelin has turned his aim toward Meisthelm. With the army of the Hierarchy engaged far to the south, Dlorn and his Galdeans are the only force capable of stopping Imelin.

Elsyn and the others reel from the loss of Aron Kryte. His death in the freezing river has robbed them of the will to go on, but go on they must. Exhausted from constant campaigning, Elsyn leads a small group east, toward the city of Hryast, where they hope to evade Imelin’s roving armies long enough to reach the security of Meisthelm. They must protect the Staff of Life at all costs or the war is lost.

Sylin Marth’s quest to discover the wizard Elxander has taken him far across the Free Lands. Hunted and harried the entire way, he and his band of dwarves finally come face to face with what he hopes will prove to be their salvation.

Chaos rages unchecked across the Free Lands as armies of light and darkness clash.

The High Council has been destroyed. Meisthelm has fallen. Killed in the ultimate act of betrayal, the Black Imelin no longer threatens the world. In his stead, a stronger, more powerful villain has arisen and continues the work he began.

Aron Kryte and his companions struggle with their next course of action. Armies of darklings and Rovers continue to plague the Free Lands. Only by combining the armies of Galdea and the Hierarchy do they stand a chance of defeating the rising evil.

Poros Pendyier and the remnants of the Free Rebellion, combined with the might of the Dagger Trolls, prepare to stop the evil growing in Morthus. It is here the traitorous Arlyn Gert has decided to build her empire from which to dominate the Free Lands. All she needs to do is secure Mordrun Hath, the Forge of Wizards.

The land of Sadith Oom, forgotten by generations, has become a place of unrest. Armies of friend and foe converge upon the desolate kingdom, for it is here that the end of times will begin. If victory is to be achieved, Aron Kryte must destroy the Staff of Life in the wizard fires of Mordrun Hath.

Friends will fall. Heroes will rise. The final hour approaches.

Liese Sherwood-Fabre has won awards for her thrillers, romance, and literary short stories, and NYT bestselling author Steve Berry describes her writing as "gimmick-free, old-fashioned storytelling."
In the second grade, she knew she was destined to write when she got an A+ for her story about Dick, Jane, and Sally's ruined picnic. After obtaining her PhD from Indiana University, she joined the federal government and had the opportunity to work and live internationally for more than fifteen years. She draws upon these experiences to endow her characters with deep conflicts and emotions.
