It’s Mardi Gras!!!

A trip to Mobile, Alabama during this time of year is just as pleasant and exciting as any Mardi Gras celebration. We learned quickly enough that Mobile was the first town to start Mardi Gras and are very proud of that fact that they have the title of America’s Oldest Mardi Gras. Their parades begin near the end of January and end on Fat Tuesday – Mardi Gras. Some days there are 4 to 5 scheduled parades, exciting to say the least. At these parades, there are no shirts lifted to receive the beads or gifts thrown from the floats. You get them thrown to you (sometimes at you) for the joy of receiving the beads, MoonPies, peanuts, stuffed animals, etc. The whole area is filled with joy, radiating from all involved.

Our tour guide, my brother, informed us that the MoonPie has special meaning to the residents of Mobile and that they even have a lighted moonpie they use for welcoming the New Year.

I was at one of the parades in this years MardiGras in Mobile, The floats had various themes, were well lit and well done. The High school bands between the floats were were in the spirit and certainly added to the occasion. The prizes just literally rained on the crowd and no one seemed the least dissapointed. It was a wonderful crowd to be in with all the happiness that just seemed to surround you and I am glad to have this experience.

Hi pam Thank you for your lovely article. Perhaps it has changed, but there is a small error on the toll road in Miami. Sunpass is preferred, rental cars already have them and the rest of our visitors a photo of the license plate is taken and you usually get a bill in the mail a week or so later. I have never known the police to stop anyone unless they were speeding or drive unsafely, but not for toll violations. Otherwise an outstanding article. I hope you will return, by early fall we will have completely re-carpeted the Little White House and this being a presidential election year we will have special exhibits on the campaigns – pro and con as well as an exhibit on the 1948 campaign of Harry Truman Bob Wolz, Executive Director Key West Harry S. I checked out your website to see the comments you had made about IHOP. Your trip you made seemed like it must have been a lot of fun. I'm passing along your compliments to the Tampa team. As I'm sure you know, comments such as yours provide a powerful motivational tool. While it seems many only focus on negative experiences, it is a kind and rare individual who takes the time to recognize great service. Thank you so much for taking the time to share such positive feedback. Thank you again for your kind words of encouragement and letting us know of your dining experience. When we get letters like yours, we know we've truly provided outstanding service! Sincerely, Kevin Neslage Guest Relations Specialist

Hi Jill, I have to say, we had a blast!!! It has been over 20 years since I was at Busch Gardens and I really thought it was more on the "younger" generations side of fun but it wasn't. It was geared for everyone. Every one of the employees was wonderful and made our week perfect.
